Overview

R&P is seeking an Engineering Technician (Structural) IV in support of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center. This position will provide support to Code 200 engineering and design staff in a variety of engineering tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of ship hull and structure in accordance with engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate complex and diverse engineering problems
  • Perform ship checks and provide detailed reports documenting structural issues and recommended repairs.
  • Perform engineering analytical tasks to identify and correct system deficiencies and provide technical solutions in the form of drawings, memoranda, reports and sketches.
  • Support Project Support Engineer and Coordinator for handling all technical issues that arise.
  • Prepare layout and detail drawings and sketches for varied and complex design projects, such as SHIPALTs and repairs.
  • Interface with SWRMC to address ship non-conformances, assess risk, and provide recommendations for new and existing ship structural and material DFSs.
  • Assist reviewing production contractor Work Items, access cut plans, design calculations, and other structural engineering related documents for accuracy and technical acceptability.
  • Coordinate with other engineering personnel, production and maintenance team, ships force, NAVSEA, ISEAs, NSWCs, RMCs, and others as required to develop solutions for naval architecture related issues.
  • Review SARs, design technical products, and deliverables with supporting estimates for final review by Government in support of the accomplishment of SHIPALTs.

Qualifications

  • Vocational/technical training beyond high school and at least seven years of job-related experience
  • BS in Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture, preferred
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to shipboard issues
  • Position may require travel
  • Position requires an active SECRET Security Clearance
