Overview

R&P is looking for an innovative and experienced marine electrical power and propulsion engineer who wants to join our team. We are a small-sized defense contractor providing Engineering, Logistics, Program Management and Technical Services to government clients. We need a Senior Electrical Power and Propulsion Ship Integration Lead ready to join a fast-paced and exciting work environment. This senior engineer will provide key leadership to the ship design and technical teams supporting the U.S. Navy’s next generation of guided missile destroyers. Support services will be provided in and around the Washington, DC area with periodic travel to the land-based test site (LBTS) in Philadelphia. A hybrid/remote work schedule can be acceptable during certain design phases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering leadership and electrical power and propulsion subject matter expertise as the Integrated Power System Ship (IPS) Integration Lead.
  • Lead and oversee the design and development of the IPS concept of operations, define system lifecycle requirements and acceptance criteria, and relay dependencies across ship system requirements.
  • Provide expert engineering solutions, solve complex technical issues, answer ship design and technical team inquiries.
  • Provide on-site collaboration and engagement within the Design Integration Team.
  • Support and continuously meet with the overall Ship Design Manager (SDM).
  • Perform as the Machinery Integration Lead within established technical working groups such as the IPS Working Group (WG), Auxiliary/Deck WGs, and HME Controls WGs.
  • Provide a high-Level of understanding to effectively communicate complex marine engineering design architectures, system dependencies, trades, and design decisions.
  • Provide expert design management services including systems engineering, trade space management and exploration, design decisions, and configuration management of marine engineering datasets.
  • Provide cross-program support and design integration across established IPTs such as IPS, Auxiliary, Survivability, and Affordability teams.
  • Perform calculations, apply electrical and marine engineering principles, and conduct quality assurance reviews of US Navy Ship and ship system design artifacts.
  • Communicate directly with clients and stakeholders to effectively convey technical principles, and design status.
  • Record action items, track meeting minutes, and manage meeting invites.

Qualifications

  • Multi-disciplinary ship and ship system design knowledge and Integrated Product Team (IPT) experience.
  • S. Citizenship and Secret DoD Security Clearance.
  • Education: B.S. Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related Marine Engineering field.
  • Experience: 8+ years in electrical engineering ship design on Navy or Maritime programs.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and proficiency in standard electrical system design and analysis.
  • Software Proficiency: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Communication: Exceptional oral, written, and presentation skills. Team Building skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Shipyard Production Systems: Experience with shipboard medium and low voltage power systems, and power conversion.
  • Software Proficiency: CAD, AutoCAD, Rhino, ETAP, and other electrical modeling software.
  • MIL Standards Knowledge: Understanding of MIL standards and specifications is a plus.

Salary
