Overview

R&P is looking for a motivated professional who wants to join our team. We are a mid-sized defense contractor providing program management, ship design, production, cyber risk management, testing, logistics, financial management, test and evaluation, configuration management, post-delivery, fleet introduction, light manufacturing, as well as maintenance and repair services to our government clients and industry partners. We need a Mechanical Project Engineer ready to join a fast-paced and exciting work environment in support of the Strategic & Theater Sealift Shipbuilding Program (PMS 385) / NAVSEA 05D Ship Design Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the PMS 385 EPF/EMS Platform PAPM / NAVSEA05D Ship Design Manager engineering efforts throughout the development, design, production, delivery, and testing phases of ship acquisition and construction. 
  • Apply naval engineering experience in one or more of the following areas of Ship Design: Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, C4I, Structural, Propulsion, Auxiliary Machinery, Naval Architecture, Deck Equipment, Aviation Support, and Technical Writing.
  • Provide technical support in developing and reviewing design drawings, ship specifications/design requirements and reviewing contract data deliverables for vessel acquisition and construction contracts issued by PMS 385. 
  • Manage shipyard deliverable reviews and responses.  Ensure technically sound analysis is performed, and responses are provided to meet contractual deadlines.  Provide evaluation of technical requirements conformance for shipyard deliverable.
  • Provide engineering analysis of technical studies, reports, plans, procedures, and processes as they relate to ship design elements. 
  • Provide technical support to the program office for reports, briefs, point papers,  contract documentation and responses to industry queries regarding ship design engineering issues and corrective actions.  Maintain configuration of Ship/Performance Specification and other program documentation.
  • Identify risks and provide analysis of emergent issues to include recommendations for risk mitigation and/or resolution.
  • Support the Configuration Control Board process and provide technical review and analysis of proposed changes.  Identify documentation requiring revision or updates as a result of new or modified designs.
  • Support Trial Card / Discrepancy Management efforts including the preparation of technical assessments of deficiencies that are documented from Builder’s and Acceptance Trials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related discipline with 7+ Years' of relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel independently to shipyard / industrial sites.

Salary
